ABSTRACT
The production of ornamental plants for export purposes in Guatemala occurs in few
productive units, due in part to the scarce technical information on this production as
well as the knowledge of existing markets.
For some years, Finca Las Marías has diversified its production and among which are
the crops of Maranta leuconeura, Marantaceae, "Maranta verde" and Aphelandra
squarrosa, Acanthaceae, "Afelandra", for foliage purposes, these being the crops of
greater importance for the farm, having demand in the international market.
On the farm, the production of foliage is carried out with the support of chemical inputs
such as fertilizers, however, said farm also has the production of organic fertilizers for
sale.
Seeking to improve the foliage of Aphelandra squarrosa, at Las Marías farm, it was
decided to investigate the effect of locally produced and available organic fertilizers and
compare the performance with traditionally applied chemical products, comparing
everything with a control without treatment. The selection criterion was the best
response combined with good profitability.
Using a completely randomized design and under controlled greenhouse conditions, two
chemical fertilizers used on the farm were evaluated, Nitrocomplex Plus, which has a
high content of phosphorus and nitrogen in the form of nitrate, and Blaukorn with
nitrogen content in the form of nitrate. ammonium; and two organic fertilizers,
Supermagro based on the decomposition of various organic materials and Potassium
Hydrolate based on organic matter leachate, with a high NPK content, plus an absolute
control.
The response variable evaluated was the length of leaf growth of the Aphelandra
squarrosa crop, Afelandra, for the purpose of exporting its foliage and cost and
profitability analysis. |
