Sumario: ABSTRACT Planning is a fundamental task in teaching, since it allows to unite a specific pedagogical theory with practice. It is what makes it possible to think coherently the sequence of learning that is to be achieved with the students. Otherwise, if you do not previously think about what you want to do, it is possible for students to perceive a series of isolated experiences, designed to assess the accumulation of learning rather than the achievement of a process. The importance of planning lies in the need to organize coherently what you want to achieve with students in the classroom. This involves making decisions prior to the practice on what methods and techniques can be used to improve the teaching process, so that students feel motivated to learn. The present research study was conducted under the quantitative methodology, using the survey addressed to urban primary school teachers in the official schools of Mazatenango, Suchitepéquez. The results obtained reflect a series of weaknesses in the planning and therefore affect the teaching performance, which makes both the achievement of significant learning and quality education difficult. Due to the above, the need arose to create a proposal that would constitute a response to the weakness detected and consist of the implementation of workshops, training and follow-up programs; with the purpose of increasing the effectiveness of the planning and the teaching performance, in order to raise the educational quality of the school district No. 96-40 of Mazatenango Urbano.
