Sumario: ABSTRACT Education is one of the most important factors for the development of the human being, it constitutes a source of knowledge that benefits students, however, in recent years, this process has been threatened by the appearance of a pandemic that is possibly the responsible for a marked abandonment of studies by many students in our country, since this represented a drastic change for everyone, at all levels, mainly in the way of teaching it and due to the mandatory confinement that was established in almost the entire world. The use of technologies was one of the most relevant factors in this new rearrangement of education and one of the biggest challenges also due to the little mastery of devices, applications and digital platforms, among others, by the educational population; factor that would become the main stage for education throughout the country; For this and other reasons, it can be deduced a priori that the pandemic had a dropout impact on the student population. With the intention of establishing a relationship between the themes, the present research study is proposed and developed, to relate the pandemic and school dropout at the National Institute of Basic Education of Aldea San Pedro Cutzán, Chicacao, Suchitepéquez; first investigating the existence and possible increase in school dropouts in the most vulnerable sectors of the mentioned community, to then determine the incidence of the covid-19 pandemic in this phenomenon. It should be noted that for this process the quantitative and qualitative methodology was used, since quantifiable and non-quantifiable information was collected during the field study. In this way then, the director of the educational center was interviewed and 45 students and 13 teachers to find out their opinion on the matter and later analyze said responses to determine the degree of incidence of the pandemic on desertion in the establishment and finally make an effective proposal to correct the condition of the problem.
