Sumario: In Panama, as in many countries in the area, graduate programs have achieved unprecedented growth in recent years. This trend seems to be sustained as the labour market increases requirements for its employees: universities therefore seek to meet the demand for training. The Faculty of Education Sciences of the Autonomous University of Chiriquí does not currently have a Curriculum Design for the Higher Teaching Specialization Program, whose graduate profile ensures the training of the future university teacher in the mastery of skills: personal, professional and occupational skills that are required to meet the demand of the university teaching labour market. The general objective is: to promote university teacher training within the framework of the skills approach, aimed at acquiring personal, professional and occupational skills from the future university professor to respond to higher-level teaching labor market requirements. The type of sampling used was the probabilistic, a condition that ensures the representativeness of the extracted sample of a stratified random typed which considers typical categories different from each other (strata) that have homogeneity with respect to some feature that secures all strata of interest. The study was conducted with 42 graduates according to academic records of 2017 and 2018, 68 current students enrolled in 2018 and 42 teachers who worked in that period. For the Academic Authorities, we worked with those who attended the Focal Group. A higher percentage of the female gender was observed in .the three participating groups. More than 50% have a master's degree in their specialty, which makes them competitive professionals in university teaching. The participating groups consider that a new curriculum design should be carried out, so the evidence of the study makes it necessary to update the Graduate Course in Higher Teaching offered by UNACHI. For this reason, a proposal called "University Teacher Training Model with a competency-based graduate profile" is presented, which meets this challenge: it consists of the Curriculum Design of the Graduate Of Specialization in Teaching Superior, as a modality-based modality, in order to improve the quality of training of the institution's teachers and the applicants to practice higher teaching.
