The objective of this research is to analyze the single parent family structure with teenager
children in social risk. The environment where it takes place is Changuinola District, Bocas del Toro
province, precisely in Cochigro Town where the families and participants of this study live. It is
used the qualitative approach with their characteristics, the scope is exploratory and descriptive,
and the design is non-experimental. The sampling is non-probabilistic, and the type of sample is
convenience. Regarding the techniques used for collecting information are participant observation
and semi-structured interviews. The findings were analyzed through diagrams with their proper
interpretation. The main results reveal that, in the structure of single-parent families with
adolescent children at social risk, the limits are rigid, their rules are recognized, verbal and non
verbal communication prevails, and adolescents are exposed to social risk factors such as: school
absenteeism, school dropouts, poor academic performance, alcohol and illicit substances
consumption, promiscuity, early pregnancy, criminal behavior and child labor.
