During the government of Manuel Estrada Cabrera it was determined that the village belonged to the municipality of Santa Catarina Ixtahuacán, department of Sololá. The objective of the research was to characterize the physical composition and amount of solid waste generated in the village and for this three strata were taken into account; homes, shops and market For the characterization of solid waste, the quartering method proposed by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Guatemala was used. It was determined that there are currently 487 homes, 76 shops and a market, based on these results the sample size was calculated. A sample of 141 homes, 55 shops and a market was determined. Sampling in homes and shops was carried out on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday for a week; In the case of the market, samples were taken on Mondays and Fridays. It was found that the total production per week is 3,452.09 kilograms of waste and solid waste with a daily production of 493.15 kilograms. Finally, wastes were classified in a week in both strata, the general results were 67.3% organic material, 19% non-recoverable, 4% inert and the recoverable material is composed of: 2% glass, 3.5% PET polyethylene plastic, 0.2% paper, 4% cardboard.
