Sumario: Abstract The research was carried out in three establishments: the institutes by Cooperative of the municipalities of San Gabriel and San Lorenzo and the Blaise Pascal school in the municipality of Mazatenango, all of the department of Suchitepéquez. A comparative analysis was made about the excessive and inadequate use of mobile devices in the classroom. To this end, a survey ticket was applied to teachers and students, who corroborated the researcher's experiential observations on the topic under study in both institutional environments. Thanks to the collaboration of the professors, students and authorities of the investigated establishments, the present study was successfully concluded. In the first instance, a bibliographic review was carried out on the topics: academic performance and virtual distractors in the training process. These theoretical elements, based on field research whose tabulation charts allowed the analysis and interpretation of the data, which gave life to the content of this report. The investigation allowed us to discover that among the main distractions that students of the middle level have, is the excessive and uncontrolled use of mobile devices with access to social networks and virtual games. It was detected that there is a kind of obsession in young people with the use of mobile devices that do not allow them to concentrate on their studies, causing failure to deliver their tasks due to loss of time in these distractions, since most of the students consulted they dedicate half an hour daily to the study of their texts and notepads; adding to this is the fact that they do not like studying the contents of courses. This situation causes low academic performance, which is a limitation in the training process.
