Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo evaluar el estado silvicultural de los ecosistemas forestales en la Estación Biológica Osa Verde, Puerto Jiménez, para determinar la capacidad de contribuir a la mitigación del cambio climático. Se implementaron tres parcelas cuadradas de 5042 m² para el Ecosistema de Referencia (ER). En las parcelas de Regeneración Asistida (RA) establecidas de previo por la organización, se tomaron como referencia 20 unidades cuadradas de 5042 m², cinco por cada tratamiento (L= 0% balsa, todos los individuos son especies autóctonas, M= el 33% de los árboles son balsa y 67% de otras especies nativas, H= el 75% son balsa y 25% de otras especies nativas y N= no se plantaron árboles, las parcelas son testigo o control del experimento). Dentro de cada unidad de muestreo se medió el DAP (≥10 cm) la altura y se identificó la especie de todos los árboles plantados o remanentes. Se realizaron dos infografías con información de cambio climático para dos grupos meta. Se planificó un taller dinámico presencial para niños, niñas y jóvenes, donde se aplicaron encuestas a los participantes, estas fueron recopiladas y analizadas para conocer la comprensión de las personas sobre el cambio climático. La clase diamétrica con mayor abundancia en las parcelas de RE y RA fue la de 10 a 19,9 cm. Conforme aumentó el proceso sucesional del ecosistema se incrementó el área basal. El porcentaje de heliófilas durables fue mayor en el ER, y en la RA fue variado y altamente ligado a las especies clasificadas según el objetivo de cada uno de los tratamientos. El uso de la balsa (Ochroma pyramidale), ayuda a generar condiciones más idóneas para la regeneración de otras especies y del bosque. El stock de carbono para el ER es de 158,41 Mg* ha y en la RA el promedio para cada tratamiento fue de 14,5 Mg, 13,7 Mg, 13,4 Mg y seis Mg para H, N, M y L, respectivamente. Se replicó ocho veces un taller dinámico presencial, asistieron participantes entre los seis y 22 años. Los resultados fueron positivos porque las personas entienden el significado de “cambio climático”, pero la mayoría no conoce sobre sus causas, efectos y acciones a tomar para mitigar su impacto.
