Sumario: The guava, Psidium guajava, is a genus of more than 100 species of small tropical trees in the Myrtaceae family. Contains vitamin C, A, Band mineral salts. Considered the queen of superfoods, due to its large number of antioxidants, surpassing blueberry, orange and lemon. He arrived in Europe with the Spanish in 1526, settling on the Mediterranean coast and in France. It reaches India, where it became naturalized and spread to Asia. Today it is cultivated or grown wild in Indonesia, Pakistan, China, Japan, the Philippines, Hawaii, the West Indies and in Panama. Its dispersion has been natural. The plant prefers dry climate, lowlands and grows up to 1500 m.a.s.l. The strawberry, pink, sabanera and yellow varieties, collected in Chiriquí, are studied. None of them are cultivated commercially, but the trees arefound in areas surrounding towns. The chemical determination of Psidium guajava showed that this fruit contains excellent percentages of water, protein, ash, crude fiber, carbohydrates and fat.
