Sumario: Panama has been going through serious environmental problems for severaldecades, related to the management and disposal of solid waste. The traditionalmodels and tools of environmental management have proven to be insufficienttomitigateandreversetheenvironmentalproblemsthatthecountryisexperiencing related to waste management.This problem is deepened bythe excessive and accelerated migration of thePanamanian population to the territories adjacent to the economic activitiesrelated to our transit development model, which by 2020 concentrated 60% ofthe country's population in the provinces of Panama, Panamá Oeste and Colón,generating greater pressure on the already collapsed public systems for themanagement and final disposal of waste, including hazardous waste.Hence, the notorious urgency of looking for alternative ways can guarantee theenvironmental and social care of the country, while strengthening and enrichingthenational economy.
