Sumario: The WHO refers to water as an essential factor for life, therefore, safe and good quality supplies are required. Many health problems are attributed to water from contamination with pathogens. The cysts of protozoa and helminth eggs cause intestinal affections, with water being the most important vehicle to spread them. The water treatment plants haven ́t eliminated the risk of certain diseases, rather they have increased in many countries. In Panama, it is unknown whether quality measures in water control are sufficient to prevent these pollutants. In this document, a literature review was carried out with the purpose of evaluating the situation of the state of the water regarding its quality, presence or absence of intestinal parasites in different bodies of water in Panama and investigate the current problems in this area as well as gather information to establish parasite detection protocols in laboratories dedicated to water analysis.
