Sumario: Acute respiratory infections (ARI) are the major cause of hospitalization in children under five years of age; mainly caused by respiratory viruses. Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is responsible for 75% of bronchiolitis and 50% of pneumonia in children under 2 years.This is a descriptive study that was carried out using the RT-PCR technique, between in the months of February toAugust 2015, children under five years of age were also included or were treated in a pediatric emergency room of the José Domingo de Obaldía Hospital , and they presented respiratory symptoms. 481 samples of nasopharyngeal exudates were obtained from children, with 317 positive for respiratory viruses. The virus that was found most frequently were: Rhinovirus (RV) in 123 patients (25.6%), Metapnovirus (MPV) in 47 (8%), Parainfluenza (PI) 3 in 42 patients (8.7%), Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) in 38 (7.9%), Adenovirus (Ad) in 27 (5.6%), and less frequently Parainfluenza 2 in two patients (0.4%) as well as Influenza A H3N2 in 4 patients (0.8%). The most frequent respiratory virus was Rhinovirus.
