The general objective of this research, Experiences, challenges and attitudes of
university student mothers during their training process, is to “Describe the experiences of
university student mothers in the personal, family and academic environment.”
To carry out the study, we worked with eight (8) social actors, who reside in different
geographical areas of the province of Chiriquí: David, Bugaba, La Concepción and Victoria,
who carry out their academic studies at the Autonomous University of Chiriquí, David
headquarters.
It has a qualitative approach, with its respective characteristics. Its scope is exploratory
descriptive, with a topical narrative design, which allows us to know and identify the
experiences of the participants.
The homogeneous sample is used and the information obtained was through participant
observation, semi-structured interview and focus group techniques. Regarding the theories
linked to the research problem, we have: Role Balance Theory, Reasoned Action Theory,
Coping Strategies Theory.
The results obtained reveal the experiences, challenges and attitudes and coping
strategies, the latter as an emerging category, that the social actors have presented when
playing the various roles to fulfill personal, family and university commitments and thus
achieve compliance with the established goal: obtain your university degree.
