Musa Paradisiaca; savia; piel de pescado; Pagrus Pagrus; cuero; tanino. The objective of this report is to explain the different procedures and methods that were considered during the development of the course of Material Science final project. This project involved the use of tannin extracted from the sap of the banana (Musa paradisiaca) as raw material for tanning fish skins. At the beginning of the project, the student group used their research skills and initiative to obtain specific information from different on-line databases. Afterward, we performed the various processes needed for the production of tannin from the sap of the pseudostem and for the treatment that fish skins should receive. In this project, we worked with skins of red snapper (Pagrus pagrus), which once tanned were used to make small craft samples. The technical feasibility of the implementation of these processes for the use of by-products of the fishing industry was demonstrated.
