This research, within the design perspective, has the goal to create a prototype of housing that can be used as a temporal shelter for people affected by natural disasters. The elements that were taken into account for the design of the prototype were the national climate, adequate ventilation, facility to transport materials, use of recyclable materials, versatility and duration. Therefore, an initial prototype was created to attend aspects of recycling using an industrial container. However, the high temperatures due to wall materials were regarded as negative aspects. To improve the prototype, we decided to cut the walls of the container (reducing its weight as well) and replacing them with pre-fabricated wooden blinds panels. This change improved ventilation. For the foundations, we propose using old tires filled with sand or clay, and supporting them upon wooden pallets, which is one of the best techniques found due to the easiness to manipulate materials during its construction, to the use of recycled materials, and to the availability of materials. To offer protection from rain and sun, we propose using an external canvas cover with metallic structure.
