Sumario: The purpose of this study is to determine the socio-educational factors that influence the reading comprehension of 7th grade students at the General Vidal B. de Barroso Basic Education Center. To achieve the mentioned objective, a methodology based on the quantitative approach was used with a descriptive investigation, non – experimental design, and cross-sectional correlation scope. Congruently, the informants of this research were the seventh-grade students, teachers, and parents of the General Vidal B. de Barroso Basic Education Center, located in the David district. Province of Chiriqui. This study investigates the socio-educational factors that influence the reading comprehension of 7th grade students in the context of General Basic Education. Through an interdisciplinary approach that combines education, psychology and sociology, the complex interactions between the family environment, socioeconomic level, parental education, early stimulation, school resources, pedagogical strategies implemented in the classroom, the attitude and motivation of the student in relation to his ability to understand written texts. In addition, the importance of the student's intrinsic motivation is identified as a fundamental element for the development of reading comprehension skills, influenced by the attitude towards reading and cultural identification. The data analysis also underscores the relevance of the socioeconomic context in the student's willingness and ability to engage in reading practices. In summary, the research was able to clearly determine that socio-educational factors do influence the reading comprehension of 7th grade students at the Vidal B. de Barroso General Basic Education Center. The findings of this research have significant implications for educational policymaking and teaching practice. It is argued that a comprehensive educational approach, which recognizes and addresses the interconnection of these socio-educational factors, can contribute to strengthening reading comprehension skills in 7th grade students of the Vidal B. de Barroso General Basic Education Center, thus promoting a stronger academic and personal.
