(INALSA S.A.) is a private company located in the coastal area of the country, specifically in Champerico Retalhuleu, having as main activity processing tajadas1 pre fried banana for export and local sales. In this process viewed from the reception of green banana, ripening, washed, peeled and cut fruit, fry chops, freezing to packaging; whereby by-products such as waste water ordinario2 and especial3 type are also generated, which in turn they are treated with different methods. Water ordinary type is conducted to a filtering process and the special water is transferred to a treatment plant three phases: preliminary oxidation pond and reuse in irrigation field in which is disposed vetiver, which meets 236-2006 standard however the presence of unpleasant odors which are not allowed to effect the quality standards of the company was detected. For reducing odors, it has increased the frequency of cleaning oxidation ponds, causing increased maintenance costs. To find a solution to this problem, an evaluation of the treatment system of special wastewater was performed, performing analysis laboratorio4 for chemical and microbiological parameters (temperature, hydrogen potential, fats and oils, floating matter, suspended solids, nitrogen full, color, settleable solids, phosphorus, biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand and fecal coliforms). 1 pre fried banana Chops: small pieces of three to five cm thick banana to the final consumer given a final cooking (López, B. 2014). 2 Wastewater ordinary type: concerning household wastewater (kitchen) and rainwater (Technical study of water for reuse and sludge, 2010). 3 Residual water special type: is water generated during the production process of pre fried banana (Technical study of water for reuse and sludge, 2010). 4 Analyses were performed in the laboratory analytical solutions certified with the ISO / IEC 17025. This evaluation was conducted through sampling water at the entrance of the oxidation pond and irrigation field trip; obtaining a composite sample for each efluente5. With the establishment of the pollutant load contributed to the wastewater and the percentage of efficiency of the oxidation pond for each parameter set, it was determined that the plant is currently effective for the parameters of floating matter, settleable solids and color; not for the elimination of excess fats and oils, total suspended solids, total nitrogen and total phosphorus; and a lower percentage of 20% for DBO6 and DQO7. The above results allowed to determine that the oxidation pond does not meet the expected by theoretical function performance, so it is advisable to implement complementary processes for treating wastewater and grease traps, waterproof the floor of the lagoon, evaluate the size the lagoon to consider extending and implementing the manual for the maintenance of the treatment plant produced as a result of this investigation.
