The intestinal parasitism represents an indicator of the environmental
sanitary state, as well as the social, economic and cultural characteristics of a
population. The prevalence of intestinal parasitism is high in Latin America
nevertheless the numbers of prevalence referred to a country or a province in
isolated form have a relative value.
This study was made in order to determine the influence of the
environmental conditions in the prevalence of the intestinal parasites in the
population who works in the banana plantation of the province of Bocas deIToro,
like a part of the program of occupationalhealth that is carried out in the province
For that study we collected 60 samples of human lees (20 from workers of
Independent Properties, and 40 from workers of Property of BFC) from August to
November 2005. The samples were analyzed using coprological techniques of
direct observation. In the same way, we applied a survey to the workers of the
property that allowed us to gather data like age, environmentalconditions of their
work areas, and of their houses
The results allowed us to evaluate the prevalence of intestinalparasitism
and simultaneously; to relate them to the age, the way we got it. and the
environmentalconditionsl as much in the work areas like in the houses.
