Sumario: According to the World Economic Forum (WEF), which evaluates the competitiveness index of 144 countries, Panama is currently in the 40th position in the area of innovation. Based on indicators, such as patent and availability of scientists and engineers, the WEF observes that countries with an economy based on innovation have more than 100 PCT patents per million population. This analysis also shows that Panama achieves low evaluations regarding the number of 4.4 PCT patents per million inhabitants and the availability of scientists and engineers compared to other evaluated countries, such as USA and Israel. Therefore, the objective of this work is to perform a trend analysis of the generation of PCT patents per million inhabitants, as well as the availability of scientists and engineers in Panama. The methodology used in this study is ARIMA (Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average) models to forecast for the variables in the last 10 years. The result obtained indicates that the behavior of these variables will not help raise the index of innovation in Panama.
