Sumario: Abstract There are several factors in the social context of students of the National Institute of Basic Education of San Sebastian, Retalhuleu, which influence their behavior, besides reaching influence school performance. Mainly in the family, who is the main base of society, various problems such as family disintegration, poverty, alcoholism, smoking and drug abuse, child labor are given, among others. All this generates disinterest and lack of motivation in students for education, reaching the critical point of dropping out. The dropout rate is a concern and interest in the Guatemalan education issue still evident in educational establishments, so that an investigation was conducted at the National Institute of Basic Education of San Sebastian, Retalhuleu, about the factors that influence dropout, it was determined that the influence of the family problems, poverty forcing the teenager to abandon their studies and perform some kind of work at an early age due to financial need, while leaving your dreams and goals because to that through education it is achieved to obtain a degree, a title in order to obtain better working conditions and life. The disinterest of parents for the education of children because of economic necessity many parents are engaged in trading early hours, leaving their children almost every day, without interest and have knowledge of behavior was also evident when They are leading to the establishment, at home and on the street. That same disinterest of parents has also influenced their children so that they are not interested in their own education, showing a lack of responsibility for the tasks assigned by teachers who qualify the academic performance of students from fair to bad.
