ABSTRACT
This research about the disintegration of nuclear family, as a factor of the child academic performance, in the municipality of San Antonio Suchitepéquez, 10 km. from the Department capital and 150 km from the Capital City. The town is one of the municipalities with a majority of Ladino population.
The study was conducted in the official urban schools of the primary level No. 1 “Narciso Sardá”, “De Varones No. 2”, “De Niñas “Jorge Alvaro Sarmientos” (homoeducational), “Antiguo Beneficio” (Coeducativa).
For the selection of each case, was important the participation of teachers of fourth, fifth and sixth grades, who have studied and know the problem in a deeper way. Once located the students that suffer this social ill, in a private meeting the subject of the research was explained to them with the purpose of collect the most quantity of possible information.
Interviews with children´s mothers, fathers, uncles, grandfathers, tutors and neighbors in different hours and days; in their homes, streets, and workplaces were conducted with the purpose of obtaining reliable data. Knowing the rejection of talking about suffering with strangers, because of shame, distrust, lack of time, for the extended workday’s hours.
The interviews and the circulation of questionnaires were assigned to teachers in each section, in charge of each group.
With triangulated information: students, parents and teachers involved, it is possible to know a high percentage of the economic, social, academic, and moral crisis and the emotional unbalance that affects each one of the children victims of abandonment. From the 76 cases, 31 girls and 45 boys are affected. The dissociative whip: The father with the internal migration 43.42%, abandonment for other woman 24.13%, external migration 21-05%, alcoholism 17.24%, jealously 10.34%, low income 8.62%. Students cannot have a good academic performance, because the lack of support, as witness of theirs parents separation. Not having the necessary means to study. The crisis can be seen with the ages of each of the ones that are out of bounds. Repetition, absenteeism, school dropout and academic failure are the results. It is not the responsibility of the educational system. The low academic performance, belongs to the family head and each one of the students. |
