ABSTRACT
EVALUATION OF THE COLLECTION AND TRANSPORTATION SERVICE OF SOLID
WASTE OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF PANAJACHEL, SOLOLÁ.
Panajachel in the department of Sololá is located on the shore of Lake Atitlán, the
municipal seat is the city of the same name and the main economic activity derives from
national and foreign tourism. It has approximately 13,238 inhabitants and approximately
3,633 families according to the population count performed by Ministerio de Salud in
2,017.
In this locality the Supervised Professional Exercise of the career of Engineering in
Local Environmental Management was carried out, starting with a diagnosis of the
current management of solid waste. The main problems faced by the Municipal
Environmental Management Department were identified and classified; revealing
several unfavorable situations in the collection and transport of solid waste service,
because it was started without any kind of technical planning or knowledge of the
volume and weight of the waste that would be collected.
This research titled: “Evaluation of the collection and transportation service of solid
waste of Panajachel, Sololá” was carried out to propose solutions and mitigate the
problems mentioned before. The general objective of the investigation is to evaluate the
collection and transport of solid waste, through the characterization of collection routes,
identifying the main weaknesses in the collection service and the propose an efficient
solid waste collection service for the urban area of Panajachel. Sololá. |
