Sumario: ABSTRACT To guarantee the academic preparation of the students in the different educational centers of the country, the Ministry of Education of Guatemala through the General Direction of Educational Evaluation and Research, implements the diagnostic evaluation, as a verification mechanism that allows to demonstrate the deficiencies in around the teaching and learning process. It should be noted that the diagnostic evaluation aims to be a requirement for the printing of titles, but not promotion. In this case, it is specifically applied to students of the Middle Level, Diversified Cycle. Based on the above, it is necessary to develop a research process to determine the effect of "The academic preparation of students on the results of diagnostic assessments." In order to identify what are the causes that affect their academic preparation. For this reason, there is the concern to develop a quantitative research process that allows knowing the complexity of the detected problem, for which it is necessary to apply the scientific method as: observation, survey and interview, being these the core part for the development of the investigation. In addition, a sample of students from different careers, principals, teachers and parents is obtained. Based on the opinions of the entire educational community, it is affirmed that the academic preparation of the students has a direct impact on the results of the diagnostic evaluations, for this reason, it is necessary to mention the factors that affect the academic preparation of the students, such as: teacher preparation and updating, curricular coverage, supervision system, use of active methodology and student motivation. With respect to the academic preparation of students, it is important to highlight the role played by the educational community (educational supervisors, principal, teachers, students and parents) in strengthening educational quality.
