Summary: The purpose of this study is to develop and to validate a construct of a university teaching competence, using the students' rating with 30 items. 374 students of the three departments at the University of Costa Rica, Guanacaste Campus have participated. The largest group of participants is represented by junior students (39.4%), with an average of 19.9 years old. To valid the present, construct we have applied the models of the structural equation to six university teacher competences, such as organization, evaluation, presentation, enthusiasm, interaction and the student`s global valuation. The universities interested in the innovation can use these factors to develop formation plans to upgrade their professors.
